Although renting skis during peak season can be a chore, a little planning will help you avoid a debacle.

Every 15 years or so, skiing technology experiences a revelation that changes everything. It's often something that appears strange at first, but after a period of trial and error, becomes the industry standard. This is the year of the rocker.
Ski makers have incorporated camber into ski design since 1850 in Norway. The concave shape against the snow distributes weight evenly across the length of the ski, which provides for better stability and subsequent energy out of the turn. It was a brilliant concept.

Which should make for a nice run down to Friday's opening of the new High Noon Express Chair 5! With Mix Master Mike kicking things off tonight, it's going to be a great Snow Daze weekend!

VAIL, Colorado — After surpassing the 100-inch mark for season-to-date snowfall this morning — nearly seven weeks earlier than last season — Vail Resorts said Monday that it will open Blue Sky Basin this Friday, bringing the resorts open skiable terrain to 4,308 acres this season.

Vail opens Siberia Bowl; Beaver Creek offers more than 500 acres

Vail Mountain operations crews opened Siberia Bowl Wednesday, boosting the resort’s skiable terrain up to 3,079 acres. Siberia Bowl is accessible via the Orient Express Lift (#21).
Beaver Creek opened Wednesday with 530 of 1,815 skiable acres and 13 of 25 lifts.
Skiers and snowboarders now have access to the following lifts and portions of terrain in these areas on Vail Mountain:

BORMIO, Italy — Bode Miller is in the middle of a holiday break from the ski circuit, resting his sprained ankle, working on his conditioning and spending time with his daughter.
When he returns Jan. 6 for a slalom in Zagreb, Croatia, the two-time overall World Cup winner will have a month of racing to secure his starting spots for the U.S. team at the Vancouver Olympics.

About to kick off its inaugural winter season, the winter leg of the Gatorade Free Flow Tour will hold contests across the country throughout the month of January, looking to find the top amateur winter athletes in snowboarding (slopestyle and superpipe) and freeskiing (slopestyle and superpipe). Spread out across the East (3) and West Coasts (3), the Midwest (1) and the Rocky (2) and Wasatch Mountains (1), the winners at each stop of the 10-event schedule will be flown to the Gatorade Free Flow Tour Finals for a chance to earn the year-end title.
